I have read about people putting a grinding cup wheel on a drill press or a round coulmn mill.

The wheel spins in horizontal plane and the drillhead is rotated on the column and the wheel is wiped across the workpiece.

I've got no idea how safe/dangerous this might be - will have a google

Found one, read post #4- https://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...g-mill-177069/

............ and wear your Ned Kelly armoured suit just in case the cup wheel shatters

Probably more stuff around with some googling

I have done this with a cup wheel on a manual mill.
I used a small cup wheel as a big one got bogged down too easily.
I crept up on the Z feed, probably 0.01 mm at a time. Or maybe 0.005 mm.
I was relying on the X axis ways for flatness.
Anything more aggressive simply stalled the motor. There did not seem to be much risk of the cup wheel bursting.
    Eh - it worked.

    Cheers

I used a smaller cup wheel and traversed faster. Didn't have a mag clamp, so had to use jigs. The secret really is to take very fine cuts imho.

I was horrified to see the way all the sparks from the grinding were hitting the Z axis dovetail. Most unwise.

    Cheers
