why dont you use a link belt instead of pulling the spindle out

The cost of the link belts is astronomical.

Probably a good idea to look at all the bearings and journals at the time anyway

Now all that’s left is the spindle.

This same model mill was posted to the forum with a gumtree link.

The one for sale has the original base, and motor mount. Also look like it has an additional arbor and box of cutters included.



Looks like originally it was a there speed flat belt.


Another one only the base is different.

HI again, I see you found pics of my mills.
I have measured the bases for you. One is 540mm high & the other is 560mm high.

The taper in both machines I have is a MT3. I measured both arbours and the large end of the taper comes in a 0.93". The tapers appear to be short on the arbour so the small end of the taper at the little end is just slightly larger than 0.79" (as opposed to 0.77") but to the best of my knowledge I don't believe there are any other tapers out there with those dimensions. And those measurements fit with MT3. (IF someone wishes to correct me then by all means feel free to chime in)
I have also put an MT3 collet in the spindle and it fits like a glove.

Having said all that, I would still double check yours. Machines were often available with different tapers as options (and still are)

Here is the older one. Waiting for restoration. It's motor bracket and countershaft actually mount to the top of the stand.

This is what I have done for a motor mount.


I was feeling a bit better today and the sun was out so while the kid played I degreased, polished and painted some parts.


Seems like the worlds worst paint, it really tacky so it’s either to thick or the brush wipes it off again. I’ll see if it self levels or I have to strip it off again. It is very different to any paint I’ve used before. I am not convinced thinning it will help much either.

Hi Dean, Guys,

I don't know if the paint they sell here in the UK is the same, but I've used it several times and found it very good. It does take quite a while to dry. From memory I think it says 8 to 16 hours on the tin. It seems to self level somewhat. But when hard it takes some hammer and doesn't chip easily.

Going grey

Paints not fully cured and it needs some touch ups around the table. I have go buy a small brush. But I’m impatient to get it finished.

What voltage and size motor are you running on this, please?
I have one the same, but a flat belt, thinking of going the V belt route also.
I do have a vertical head for mine, if you want to copy one?
