That's the same email I got Bob. Question is, how does shipto know what you paid for your goods?
The other question is, what if I buy a secondhand item from a private seller? Why should I pay GST for that? I don't pay GST if I buy something S/H from ebay in australia or Gumtree or facebook buy swap sell.

I've not shipped anything via shipito since the new system started but I'm assuming they will take the value of goods for GST purposes as being the amount you fill in for the customs declaration. Anything to do with customs I play with a very straight bat, those guys have absolutely no sense of humour.

Yea well hes got nothing to complain about now! And ill still be buying from OS. When you can get stuff delivered for sometimes half the Aus reatail price, the GST wont make any difference!

Well i just tried to buy some glow plugs for my ute off Amazon USA. The site isn't geoblocked like they said it would be. you can browse and add stuff to the cart, but they wont allow shipping to Australia. I guess if you use a freight forwarder you can still buy from amazon USA.

Maybe I was dreaming but I seem to remember that I read that one of the services offered by Ship it to was a US based credit card, so that you could make purchases from vendors who would normally refuse overseas buyers, have the goods sent to Ship it to, and everyone would live happily everafter. I have no idea of the cost of such services if indeed they exist.

Yeah...Shipito can i believe also purchase for you at sites that dont accept OS cards
Never used it tho...always bought from suppliers who accepted card and had shipped to Shipito for final delivery to Aust.

HI,
I just bought a HK based ebay seller's ER32 collet set for my new mill. Original price was $58.00, on checkout it went up to $63.00 including GST. Still $25.00 cheaper than anything I can get in Oz (not sure how good they will be though).

I just ordered another log splitter valve from the US. It will get sent through my US address via Shipto so it will be interesting to see how they work out the GST to be paid.

Most OS suppliers won't be adding GST and no one is currently checking.
Aust Post had said outright they don't have the capacity to check purchases and wont be doing it.
The ATO has an additional budget of only $3 million a year to implement this and they reckon they can recover only $75 of the $450 (million) of the GST payable via OS purchases.
