    Default Collet Surprise

I purchased a set of ER40 collets and this was the first one in the set I opened, how a stone found it's way in there I'll never know.

Probably put through some sort of tumbler to remove any burrs.

That's a sample of the not-so-rare element Chinesium.

Check out these ER40 babies that arrived yesterday:

They appear to have been crushed by something but the little plastic box each one came in showed no sign of this so it must have happened some time before they were packaged.
The other nineteen were fine and the seller didn't hesitate in replacing them but it doesn't say a lot for quality control.
    Cheers,
    Greg.

Did you buy Max Orbit collets from Melbourne_tool_shop on eBay? I think I have your crushed boxes

I know they cost a fortune, but there's a lot to be said for brand-name collets. We mainly use ER32 at work on the CNC router and the difference between a $25 Taiwanese and a $100 German collet is night and day; beautifully ground and polished and not a sharp edge to be seen

    Picked it in one Ben.

To be honest the rest of the collets were actually better than I expected them to be. The finish on most is pretty good, no burrs or dags with less than two thou runout on the ones I checked and this is easy enough to tweak if necessary.
Not Rego-Fix quality by any measure but for less than $5.00 a collet delivered they're pretty good value I reckon.
    Cheers,
    Greg.

That's why I like buying Chinese: if something isn't quite right they will replace or refund without a problem. Shame most Aussie sellers aren't quite that good.
