Cleaning dried oil off ways
My most recent machine acquisition (HM50 mill) is nearly ready to fire up, however as it sat un used (essentially since new) all the packing grease and oil etc has dried up and Im having a hard time clean it off, at this point I'm using brake cleaner and a rag and the re oiling with a ISO68 way oil as I go. is there anything better, im only concerned about washing much into places I cant clean/dont want to have to pull down to clean.
Tips? suggestions?

Thinners, petrol, many other solvents will work.

Try kero and a tooth brush or brass wire brush (hand powered) for stubborn areas.
Cheers,

I think mineral turps is probably the cheapest, it is usually cheaper then kero.
Petrol would be very effective, but it is slightly flammable, may be carcinogenic (does it still have benzene in it)Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Another vote for kero, I also mix it with way oil and spray my machines with it in a cheap $1 spray bottle.
The kero evaperates and leaves a thin film of oil protecting it, they still look new 10/15 years latter.Using Tapatalk
