Default Water heater tank useful for muller?

I've been keeping my eyes open for ages for an offcut of pipe in the 500mm-or-so diameter range to use as the body of a sand muller. Yesterday I replaced our 20-year old Rheem 400L hot water system. I'm wondering if it might be worth the hassle of cutting the thing apart and wrestling with the old insulation. Anyone know what sort of wall thickness the internal tank on these things has, and whether it might be up to the task? Judging by the exterior dimensions, if there's any guts in the wall thickness it might be just what I'm after, but if they're paper thin, I'd rather just take it to the scrappy and exchange it for some more useful scrap.

The metal is about 2mm mild steel with a vitreous enamal lining on the inside

Thanks for the reply. A vitreous enamel lining sounds like way more hassle than I need, I think the scrappy will have it. Who knows, this time he may have exactly what I want.

To me a 500mm diameter muller isn’t going to yield a useful amount of casting sand, I’d be aiming at least for 600mm dia ie a 44 gal drum. They aren’t very thick but are readily obtainable when they need to be replaced. Most of the effort in a DIY muller goes into the geared down drive and mixing paddles, swap that onto a new drum as required.

Depending where you are located, I know where I can get 2 very old galvanised heavy gauge 44 gallon drums. 1 is the complete drum with the threaded plug holes. The other has the top cut out. These drums are nothing like the currently used ones and are a 2 person lift empty.

Unfortunately Glivo I'm a helluva long way from Gosford! I have a couple of newish 205L drums but they are too flimsy to be bothering with. I have a suitable piece of plate for a base plus a heavy steel rim that will serve well for a roller, the muller idea has been on the backburner for a couple of years whilst I wait for a suitable steel ring to fall into my lap. There's a place that we camp sometimes that has a couple of offcuts of pipe that are about 8mm wall x around 750 diameter, I lust after them every time I see them. One day the scrappy will have what I need.

My ship finally came in with this one today, I took a pile of scrap metal (including the HWS) to the scrappy, hoping to get a couple of small pieces of heavy plate that I need for my frankenmill project. My usual bloke didn't have what I needed, so I took a drive over to Warragul to another scrappy; he didn't have any plate- or to be more accurate, he wouldn't sell me any plate- but he did have a couple of short lengths of large pipe. 600mm diameter, 6mm wall. There was one about 600 long (still there if anyone else is mulling over a muller), and this one 400 long. The muller project is a step closer to reality.
