Thread: Looking for source of 200mm wire brush

Hi guys,
Does anyone know an Australian supplier of a good quality 200mm wire brush to fit to my bench grinder?
American or Euro COO, please! I was not at all, interested in Josco or Flexovit as I knew where they are made.

I changed my old worn Italian made wire brush, possibly 10 years old for a Bordo, stupidly thinking, well there's a brand I could rely on, believing it was European or American quality. I rapidly disprooved that in moments after the brushes first use, I was showered in wires, lots of them.

Fortunately, I was wearing my full face shield and my specs so no damage was done.

It was mounted true with the proper flanges and with the manufacturers spacers and run at 2850 RPMs well under the 4000 rpm max stamped into the wheel flange.

I know it will be expensive but over many years it is a saving not having to prematurely change poor quality wire wheels.

I bought one? with a red centre from the market for $25, it was sooooo out of balance things started walking off the bench.
I bought another for about $40 from the local engineers supplies with no probs, I will have a look at the names on them and let you know tomorrow.

I think it might have been me that put you onto the Bordo? If so I think I did say I was not sure of their origin.

Anyway another search has turned up USA wire wheels for US$18
Wire Brushes, Cups and Wheels - Supergrit
And they ship overseas - be interesting to what they charge to ship.

I'm quite happy with the Josco wheel I have and I use it a lot. It did throw a lot of wires in the first few uses but it doesn't seem to have thrown any wires in the last year or so - well none that I could detect.

On the plus side, the Bordo wheel was in balance but it spat wires out at machine gun frequency. I only used it for a few moments, maybe 30 seconds and shut it down. I have the receipt, so I'll take it back to where I bought it.

All rotary wire brushes will lose wires in their run in, but they usually do it a couple at a time.

I could lay into the Italian wire wheel while cleaning a tool and lose the occasional wire but in comparison when the tool I was brushing using the Bordo wheel was ever so lightly touched against the Bordo wheel there was a stacato of wires hitting my face visor. Not good enough!

My 30-year-old Multitool linisher always had a wire brush mounted on the spare motor spindle and spat the
occassional wire but none of the brushes I have ever used were in the league of this Bordo for shedding wires.

The last 8" one I got came from Blackwoods. No problems, very little wire loss. Try them.

Blackwoods also seem very competitive price wise these days. Eg, the wire wheel, and I recently bought some Dinse connectors and an electrode holder from them and they were the cheapest I could find locally.

I've never found that to be an issue at their Regency Park store.

Blackwoods sell Italian SIT brand. Which is what I have. Seems pretty OK to me. This may be the same as you were running originally. They come in a range of widths and wire diameter/density. The smaller diam will tear up much more readily.

I had a good look around before getting the SIT and everything else looked pretty weak and thin. I used to run some locally made really heavy duty wheels but they shut up shop.

Graham this is the Red wire wheel.....do not buy one of these.
It not only had a bit of runout it is also buckled (ie it wobbles from side to side) I made a flanged bush in an attempt to get some use out of it.
I really don't know why I still have it as it should have gone in the bin.

No problems with the Josco.

I returned my Bordo wheel and got a refund without problems.
I rang Blackwoods but after 12 minutes of ads on their 1300 number I got bored.
My email -through their website -to Slackwoods remains unanswered after 3 days.

By comparison, my email inquiry to the USA supergrit was answered in under 24 hrs. They did not address the postage cost inquiry.

I will visit them when I happen to go to that side of town. I still have a new /old stock-10-year-old 150 mm Spanish wheel to use so I will fit that and see how it goes.
