Thread: Leveling milling machine

I have a Hafco HM50 mill and IM not happy with its level, its not vital to operation but its got a fair lean on it.

there are a number of outrigger type setups around.
I think I will go the simplest type likes this

However am tempted to build a more sophisticated setup like this

with the more basic setups what sort of steel would you go 75x20 bar be adequate?

or does anyone have another suggestion?

Have you already leveled the mill, if so maybe your packers have moved/ shims have moved.
There should be enough weight in the machine to keep it fixed to the packers currently used.
If no packers at present and its just sitting on an uneven surface just pack/shim it level.

I used 150mm x 150mm RHS packers (lol) with leveling feet, the mill was low for me so I raised it.

when I was able to view the photo that adjustable and movable set up looked good.

Unless its too low for you like Daves was, I'd 2nd what Pipeclay said. Pack/shim it and use it. If you have a few bits of flat bar of various thicknesses, a long pinch bar and some blocks to put under that, it will only take 10 -15 minutes tops.
