Yep. That is wonderful CW. I think it will be better to keep the machine imperial anyway. I can't thank you enough. Just PM me your address for posting required parts and let me know of your costs when the time comes. There is no hurry. I may even change my mind and fully restore (ie; paint ) the machine over the interim. I'd be colour matching though to try to keep it as original as possible.

I have a quantity of HRS steel and a few brand new full gal steel sheets here of suitable size, so I might even get to welding up a stand / cabinet for it.

    Hi Guys,

16 TPI, that would give 62.5 thou per turn !
    Best Regards:

While it isn't a nice round number like 60 or 100, I can work with that. Close enough to 0.030" per half turn and with the dial indicator able to measure 0.005mm (half the smallest calibration). I should be OK. I'll be very happy with that level of accuracy.

another option i thought of was using a stub acme 10TPI, which would be .100" per turn and would just fit, might have to mill a small amount out of the topslide to fit. at any rate we shall see.

Whatever works out easiest, I'm ok with it. An easily memorised and even feed per turn would be convenient but not essential. I'll look up the specs for the thread and see how close it goes. There is a little free space in there but not much. If the milling on the saddle is kept to a very small amount it should work.

Then of course another option is to just create a custom thread in a diameter that fits with 10 tpi for both nut and screw. A 1/2" X 10 tpi would be nice and chunky compared to the 3/8" X 16. The spindle is 1" X 10 tpi 55 degree, which apparently matches very little other than a few wood lathe spindles. Possibly easier and better to stay with something recognisable though.

One consideration in increasing the diameter though is that the front plate might need to be replaced as well to provide the extra metal vertically under the clearance hole for the screw spigot and collar. This is not a huge engineering problem though. It's a piece of plate with 3 holes in it.
