    Default 360deg protractors freebies

    Gday All.
Not sure if I am allowed to post this here rather than the "for sale" but as I'm not selling them I hope this is ok.
I have four plastic, full circle protractors that have been removed from some old drafting machine heads that I salvaged from the dumpster at work. These are approx 95mm in dia X about 1mm thick. Four circle but only three of th evernier quadrants.
Would be at least 35 years old and they have yellowed with age.
I thought they might be of use to someone for a project.
If anyone wants them, if you send me a self addressed, stamped padded post bag I'll stick them in the post. Its too much of a hassle for me to get to a post office during opening hours but I go past several letter boxes each day.

If anyone is interested PM me.

    Hi Peter,
A very thoughtful gesture from you on behalf of our members.

I can see one application as part of a lathe indexing head.

I ready have a similar 150mm diam aluminum 360 degree engraved part from an old draft table, otherwise, I would grab one.

    Thank you
    Grahame

Thanks Grahame. It seems such a shame to see this stuff go in the bin

There used to be a larger version that some of the classrooms had mounted to the whiteboard. That'sprobably the size you have. I have never seen one mounted ona board but I cant see why you couldnt if you had a big enough board.

I have a couple of slightly larger aluminium ones as well which I have already put aside for another member. Also got a couple for myself.
20 years ago part of my job was maintaining 5 drafting rooms with 18-20 machines in each (just at the one campus) now there would be lucky to be more than about 5 or 6 machines left in total. The machines these plastic scales came from were an "Astor" brand. A very basic, simple machine but almost student proof. They used to take a real flogging. Extremely well made. The more upmarket ones like Pentax or Mutoh, whilst being a beautiful machine to use were no where near as robust as the old Astor ones.

Old tech that no one wants anymore.

So far only one member has said he wants one. Any one else?
