Thread: bit of a score today

Hi,

a mate called last week to say were was a drill press and bench grinder someone wanted to get rid of, was I interested? Photos sent; why not! the price was right - freebies

Went round today to pick up the drill press and grinder, there was other items too, that all had to go.

Drill press - 3 phase Richardson's pedestal drill, 3 1/4" column - hollow!
Bench grinder - 3 phase Hebco , can't read the type no or machine type from the name plate; came with a very nice cast iron stand



6" vice, can't find a name marking on this one anywhere
a few spare guns - including a small Arnold
Norgren regulator and separator
a Weston differential Pulley - haven't found a brand marking on this
a Litchfield 2 leg puller
a 10' (Oregon) plank 10"x2",


The plank; I renovated an old workbench ( ex GPO circa the 30's , that was my grandfather's). a couple of weeks ago - a Nicholson style, and the back apron was maggoted. I priced 10" x 32mm Oregon at $59/lm ( 2m plus required) , decided against it and used some 22mm Structaflor leftover I had; now I can use real timber!

The pulley: I loaned a really nice old block and tackle, and it subsequently went missing. Despite scouring Gumtree for the last 18 months, haven't found anything non-eastern and local. So this is the go for the gantry I have provisioned in my shed build.

The Richardson, not as pretty as the Tough's or Harvey I have, and whilst heavy, no where near as heavy as my 3 phase Harvey which has a solid column. A bloke can't have too many drill presses I say, and it rounds out the Oz profile a bit (Waldown noticeably absent). It looks early to me, the extended neck on the foot casting in particular.


My mate also has a Dawn drill press machine vise, from the Richardson, I have yet to pick up, and a couple of boxes of spanners (mostly Sidchrome) that we are yet to go through, plus other bits and pieces...

There is also a 3 phase compressor, I know how heavy these can be ( I have a twin cylinder vertical Ross), another mate will take that.

There was also a 5ft trolley jack.

also picked yesterday a shelving unit, ex army , heavy - edge angles are 14 gauge (2.03mm), shelves 18 gauge (1.22mm). Heavy enough, that it was better to dismantle it before negotiating carrying it down the side, around the corners and up the steps to the shed; 9 scores and nuts per shelf x 12 shelves. Have to cut it down about 100mm anyway to fit its destination location, so dismantling helps I am telling myself that to soften the thought of re-assembly).

Managed to hang temporarily the differential pulley as well, works very nicely.

picked up a couple of additional items from the same source today, 3 phase switch, and a Dawn vise.
