    Default Coat suggestions

I'm going to pour some lead to make several small weights (about 1/2 kilo each) and carry them around in a vest to treat my osteoporosis.

What I want is some suggestions for coating them so I'm not handling the lead all the time.
I think paint won't last long and prob wouldn't stick anyway. Prob need something thick and tough.

Actually that's a great idea, except, they're going to be shaped like diver's weights so I've got the option to hang them on a belt.

Have a look at plastidip - it's a flexible coating so should be more durable

Not suitable I think, it's a spray paint like rubber and removable so prob not durable.

Multiple dips in 2 pack epoxy should work.

BTW it doesn't matter if it does not stick super hard (although epoxy will stick very hard) as its completely sealed anyway.
You might need to make the gaps in the lead extra wide to allow for epoxy thickness.

If you wanted a thin hard coating I would get them powder coated.

Fabricate/machine them from steel and coat them in house paint? 785 kg/m3 vs 1134 kg/m3

Your exposure during the pouring of the molten lead could be orders of magnitude greater than a lifetime of handling.

This is a bit off topic but what is the science behind the treatment, when you do the pour make sure you have a fan moving air past you
    to give minimum exposure

    Agree with this.

There has to be a substitute for Lead. Gold perhaps.

I will be pouring in a breeze and staying up wind.
There are many treatments for osteoporosis but the main ones are getting enough calcium and vit D, plus doing exercises with weights.
By carrying weights on my body for longer periods, I am hoping to trick my brain in to thinking I am heavier than what I really am so it will promote more bone growth and hopefully more density. I'm rather frail these days too so I'm hoping it will increase my muscle mass a bit.

I agree with you there, but I don't want to be washing my hands any more than I normally do. I get enough splits in my fingers as it is.

Yep...considered that....but pouring lead is a lot easier than machining steel and I def want the smaller size so it's as least bulky to wear as possible.

How much weight did you want to carry? Another option is to just buy a weighted vest that takes small pockets of sand. Very popular in Cross fit etc. These can carry up to about 50Kg. No one uses lead these days for weighted vests for the reasons you mention above.

And, for under $100 why would you bother re-inventing the wheel? Unless of course you want to carry more weight and keep the bulk down.

Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.
