Hell all, so am thinking of replacing the motor on the lathe, Current motor is 2HP 1100rpm

Should I stick with a 2HP motor or should I upgrade to a 3HP one?

I'm with Caskwarrior. Tooling can eat up quite a bit of cash. You will probably be surprised how good a part you can make with this as is.

As prev mentioned you can adapt your methods (to a point), to cater for inaccuracies.

Wouldn't be the first time I have employed the odd shim here and there to get the job done.

I only have single phase in my workshop, current motor is 3phase. im planning to get a VFD to run it but the current motor seems to have the star/delta connection within the motor so is not a easy conversion...

From the small amount of literature I could find on Nuttal Lathes they either came with or had the option for a 2 3/4 HP motor.

The VFD Im getting can handle 3hp so if I do need to get a new motor was thinking why not upgrade a little? Also with the VFD when running below 50hz you do not get the full HP out of the motor right? so with the 3HP would still have good power at lower hz
