Not a fan of woodruff keys. I have seen them create a weak point on the shaft and they break there.
Industry would like them as they are quick and easy to make. Compared to a feather key that is slower as it requires multiple passes unless the slot drill used is very stiff.
I think I remember the late UK machinist John Stevenson saying he liked woodruff keys as they made him a lot of money repairing broken shafts.Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

I've had the Crankshaft keyway open up, had to have a special key made to fix it.
My main thoughts on the article was for cutting T slots.To grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.
