I presume the gearbox upgrade would be fitting the one out of the latest model, which drops the revs?
Cheers Andrew

Around $1745 with freight . its in and already making a difference , engine is not working as hard,
Using less fuel , 150 kllms now only 1/4 tank as previously nearly 1/2 tank.

Going from the time stamps of your last two posts, you didn't pi$$ around much deciding what you were going to do, you just made your mind up and went ahead with it and job done in 3 minutes!
With a work ethic like that, some of the F1 teams would be interested in your expertise I'd say. A very fine effort.
Cheers,
Rob

No , I had a chance between jobs to update .
So far I am happy with the results , also I possibly saved a $1000 or more doing the install myself as well as about 3-4 days .
Nothing happens quickly in most mechanical shops , many dont care about vehicles either as they all think that if a vehicle has more than 40 thousand klms on the clock it worn out and they have no respect for it.
Happened with dealer , thats why I do my own servicing .

Kryn,
Just the replacement of a stuffed LSD with a Terrain Tamer E locker .
The oils was black and gritty , once it settled I found that the grit was particles from one of the clutches ,it was running that hot the oil had cooked .
Now when only have done around only 300 klms axles etc are cool compared to the previous week where everything was uncomfortable to touch after 200klms or so and i had a 600 klm round trip to complete.
The gearbox will have to wait as I am starting to get busy again and should be until at least october November.
Lots of changes to equipment for customers so that their gear is compliant .

I take it must be a landcruiser with a turbo motor. The ones with the 1HZ motor had a weak gearbox. Ok for light duty work, but poor for heavy work.

If it is one of the current ones it should be a V8 turbo diesel.

Yes its a 2011 V8 diesel , just spent Sunday night swapping out the Fan clutch which decided to spit it fluid out .
This one is a pain to get to as I dint have small hands with inbuilt tools.
Did end up cleaning the radiator as well while all the guards were off the bottom .
The Dayco replacement is better than the original as it spins the fan at highway speeds ,something I prefer as it keeps the engine a bit cooler.
I would like to find a suitable electric clutch which would allow more control but this will do for the moment.

Hi Michael, I am assuming the ratio is the same on the new diff, should the engine load just be the same as the old diff? Diff locker should be off all the time unless you are driving slow and experiencing free wheeling/no traction on one side?

Depends on how hard the shaft is to fit as normally I can only have the ute out of action for a couple of days,
The full gear box is around $4500 and you have to sent your old one back to them .

The locker was fitted with the original pinion and gear, the problem with the LSD was that it was slipping and occasionally grabbing during normal driving , it got to the stage that I could not touch the housing after only 3-400 klms.
Now its quiet and cooler.

Just an update on the locker, I have a bit over 4000k on it now , no noises or any crunchy bits.
Happy so far , will need to use it shortly when I go to one site with a trailer in tow .
