Not quite following, it's quite common to use a X-Y mill dro on a lathe. If swapping the plugs at the display doesn't achieve the desired result, there's something more than a little weird happening I'd think.
Can't remember specifics on the Sino now, as it's a bit too far back. On the Easson I do remember, the reader head ships separate to the glass scale, so I'd expect both to be the same and you should be able to swap reader heads between the two scales. Only caution being the various plastic packer pieces, that come with the head to ensure you don't damage the scale during assembly and mounting - I wouldn't like to attempt an installation without having them in place, with Murphy sure to be ready to pounce!

I agree, the only thing I can think of is a broken wire connection in the plug, and when moved to the other socket it's not connected. The wires are very thin.
The plugs are easily taken apart to check.
I have wiring diagrams for quite a few DROs and scales here, and have changed many round and DB9 plugs over.Using Tapatalk

I have now found that I can switch the two plugs, ,what I need to know is what can I replace the to short cross slide lathe one with, as it is to short for the mill or does it not really matter what brand I get, I have a Sino Dro there is as has been said a lot of cheaper scales and kits on the market ,thanks for your help.

Doesn't matter what brand, other than some high end DROs all scales are 5v TTL signal.
Look for double lip seals if you can, but single are fine also.Using Tapatalk

SINO DC voltage on DB9 socket
Hi there,
Does anyone know what is the DC voltage required to drive the SINO scales?
I have an old Meister DRO that outputs 2.5V to drive a Meister scale and works fine.
Have just found-out that an EASSON scale requires 5V. Ouch!
Regards,
Pete

Yeah 5v, Vevor have a 3 axis readout at the moment with free shipping for $99, that may help and is supper cheap.
I have at least 1 maybe 2 Mititoyo scales here that I bought years ago new old stock, so I'll have to look into the voltage when I get around to using them.

I think I got that the wrong way around, if you need scales they also have them from around $62 from memory.
Depending on travel lengths you maybe better off going with a complete new setup from eBay or AliExpress.
AliExpress ones usually are at the door in 7 to 10 days and I find shopping on there cheaper than eBay with quicker postage.
I got a good scores from Vevor a few months back picking up 3x 250mm scales for $36 each posted through eBay.
