Default B&D Power file roller replacement

Wondering if anyone has come up with a replacement rubber roller, for the end of the arm on an older model Black and Decker Power File?
Mine is well on its way out, a bit too much pressure and it spits the belt off.
Can't seem to find anything as a spare part in AU, and UK Ebay saying out of stock!!!!
Thought I'd ask here first, incase someone has already found something, instead of re inventing the wheel.
    Thanks,
    Kryn

    Hi Kryn,

If its any help I have a number of rubber rollers salvaged from old photocopiers that may be able to be modified to suit. I have a power file, not B&D, all the rollers on mine are aluminium.

    Hi Kryn,
I replaced the whole arm on mine about 20 years ago because the roller was worn. Bought it from a tool shop in London (pre eBay!). The B&D Australia website has spare parts list for all the Powerfile models. It doesn't list the roller as a spare, only the arm assembly. On the later model it's part number 90546472. A quick look here tells me the arm is no longer available for the older models. I wonder if the arm off a newer model will fit yours?

    G'day Kryn

I saw a u-tube vid a while ago. I think it was Robert nurden made a replacement nose roller for a b&d power file.

(he is a bit odd, but his weld sculpture is excellent..)

Kryn, I can't offer direct advice on your powerfile, but we had an air powered unit where I used to work that was set up to be interchangable for 10mm or 20mm wide belts, by means of swapping the arm and roller as an assembly. The roller was a pair of small ball races set into a turned ali drum with O ring grooves around it, and a set of abt 1.5mm cross section O rings mounted. Unit came with about 30 or so O rings as spares so they could be replaced as sets when needed. Perhaps you could make up something similar with some small bearings from router bits or similar to overcome the lack of parts.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Thanks Grahame, that particular one is for the later model, not sure if it'll fit. An expensive purchase, if it doesn't fit?

    Hi Kryn,

Does your arm split by removing the two screws ? If so tell me what the diameter is and how wide the roller is. The shaft diameter and length. Making up a new roller should be easy

Thanks John, but the postage would be the killer. I've got similar parts, but no lathe/mill/etc here ATM, hopefully they'll be here next month, to work with. I thought it was just a roller bearing with a rubber coating??

    Hi Kryn,

Had a look at one in Machine Mart this morning. Different construction to B&D. All mazac alloy construction, the end roller is just an alloy piece with a steel pin pressed through it. The bearing is actually direct onto the alloy. Looks cheap and horrible, and I thought mine was poor.

I'll try and find it tomorrow and take a pic of it, can't really remember what it looks like.
    Thanks anyway.

    Hi Kryn,
I have an Ozito powerfile or whatever the hell they call it.

I know it has a 15 wide mm belt. The wheel is 16mm diameter and plain metal outside its diameter with plastic or rubber inside.

All held together with a friction fit pin about 6mm diameter. It's a little hard to measure accurately without disassembly.

I paid $49 for it at Bunnings.

I think you might get away with a small bearing race pushed into a suitable diameter of rubber or plastic tube.
