    Default Bright steel plate??

I need a small piece of plate 250 mm x 300 mm x 6 mm, what I would like to know is there such a thing as bright steel plate,
I want this piece to have a good finish and be flat I am aware I can purchase mild steel plate and finish it, just don't want to put in all that effort and find out
I could have just purchased it.

Interesting. I always assumed not. Interesting to see what others know about this.

    G'Day China,
Cold rolled steel plate is what you want. I have used it a lot at 3mm thick, assume that 6 mm is available.
    Regards,
    Don.

    Hi China,
Perhaps some of our members who do similar work may be interested in finding out how long this shiny plate stays shiny?

Are you able to post a picture when you are completed, perhaps with your thoughts on how it welded?

If so, that would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Grahame

Ok seems as though I was not clear enough, does not need to be stainless will be Cerakoted does not need to be weldable will fixed with countersink Unbrako bolts
I was hoping there was some thing with a ground surface finish rather than a mill finish, Alloys and stainless cost would be prohibitive as the because of the quantity I would have to purchase
I will probably just use mild steel bar and find some one with a surface grinder ( too big for mine)
Project is a table for a bench shear needs to be of a high quality as it is for jewellery, I can post of the project however I don't think there would be a lot of interest

    Hi China,

I would be interested as well

Re: Bright plate. The only bright plate I have seen, has been "Gauge Plate" which is basically a tool steel that is unhardened and supplied with a ground finish on both sides, sometimes the long edges are ground as well. It is usually available in both oil and water hardening types.

Those are all nickel alloys, Kryn. I think china is looking for bright steel.
My local steel deal stocks cold rolled bright flat steel bar in 6mm but I dont know how wide. Like Don I imagine it is available in 250mm .
    Cheers, Joe

    Hi Joe, Guys,

You can get gauge plate in 13" inch squares and 3/4" thick. That's the largest I've seen.

I reckon Blackwoods list bright steel, getting that width might be hard though

Just a update 6 mm bright mild steel does not exist, I have decided that 6 mm is overkill I am going with 4 mm hot rolled and will clean it up with some elbow grease ( plus a old GMC random orbit sander )
surface has to be sand blasted anyway, I have all the bits and will take some pics of the build and post them
