Mystery? Tooling in need of Identification
Hi All,
I acquired the two pictured spindles? (not really sure what to call them) from a home workshop that was being cleared out.
There was a large milling machine in the workshop that I believe these may be related to.
As you can see in the pictures, one has a MT2 hole in it, and the other a MT3.
The main body of the spindles rotates within the larger diameter black part, feels like a ball bearing?
I would really appreciate any advice, and maybe someone might just know exactly what they are!
thanks!
**EDIT
I have already tried googling "E46 MK2" and "E60 MT3", didnt really help.

I am no authority, they look very much like CNC tapping chucks/holders that I coincidentally happen to see at a local engineering shop a couple of weeks ago

MT3 would be an abbreviation for 'Morse Taper 3'. MK2 is an abbreviation for 'Morse Taper 2', but European as in some countries the word for taper starts with a 'K'.

that is a handy fact to know about the MK2 vs MT2, thanks michael.
i found some images online of drill presses that look like they use a similar device.
still not sure what the E46 and E60 refer to though.

Maybe searching U-Tube videos for "CNC tapping chuck may help?
Worth a shot. I do that sometimes.

Have a look at pages 33 and 34 here:
http://www.rmtt.co.in/files/fahrion_tool_clamping.pdf
The two tool adapters you have are identified by their numbers and described in the table on page 33, but the illustrated tool adapter is different. However on page 34 there is an illustration of E46 and E60 MT 2 and 3 tool adapters for ER32 collets which appear to be otherwise the same as your photos except for the lack of an MT ejector slot. Do the MT sockets in your adapters come out, or are they integral with the body of the tool? If they come out they may be an alternative insert to the ER collets for holding MT drills or tooling. It does appear that yours are made for the same system as illustrated in the catalogue. Perhaps yours were made by a different manufacturer to suit the tooling system, or maybe they are earlier versions of the ones in the catalogue???
Frank.

thanks heaps for the detailed response Frank! the MT sockets in my adapters part of the body of the whole tool. i checked the dimensions given in that pdf and they match up perfectly, I am thinking that mine are like you say possibly a different brand or just an old/obsolete model.
cheers
