Thread: Form tool

I wish to grind a form tool (HSS) to create 6mm ball I am planning to grind a radius to suit with a small relief and leave the top of the cutter flat (3/8x3/8 HSS) am I on
the right track or is it not that simple

Yes ! There are two ways to get to where you want to be. A form tool is just one way. The other is to build a ball turning tool that rotates a cutter, either horizontally or vertically around the end of the workpiece. You could always use a carbide wood router bit with the right shape to do the job. For a one off, that is what I would do.
