Lathe Oilers
Gday all,
I bought a heerless lathe made in 1989. It has these oiling points imbedded in the castings to lubricate the slides etc. However i'm not sure how inject the oil in them. What oiling gun do these use? And where to get one?
Thanks

You don't need anything special, just jam the tip of an oil can onto the ball until it depresses and pump in the oil

I hate those things, I remove them and tap it for 1/16 bsp and fit a tapered plug. At least I can blow out the hex and not worry about gunk getting pumped in through the action of the oil can.

Bunnings has Kinchrome brand oil cans if you're looking for somewhere easy to buy one. In the tool section and just over $10 from memory with rigid and flexible extensions.

Model Engineer Workshop (July 2011 Issue 178, page 46) published an oiler for Myford lathes which could be adapted to your problem. It has a central pin that depresses the ball on the oiler, and at the same time opens an internal valve to let the oil flow int the lathe oiler. I made one and it works very well.

Alan.
