Default Algra Rapidue Quick Change Tool Post.

Hi everyone, I have one of these tool posts, its a type A and I need some more tool holders. I can get genuine ones for a lot of $$$ and there are Indian and Chinese copies on evilbay which seem to be slightly different dimensions. Has anyone got a detailed plan of the holders and/or has anyone made their own? I have searched the archive's here and the web to death and can't find any dimensioned drawings.
I probably could make my own, but by the time I sourced the material, buy the necessary tooling and then I have no way to harden them, so I would have to send them away and freight is a killer up here.
Would I be better off cutting my losses and buy a whole new style of QCTP with cheaper spare holders?
    All help appreciated as usual.
    Rgds,
    Crocy.

    Hi Crocy,

From the PDF they look to be quite specialised, expensive ! Getting Asian copies might be the way to go if the mounting faces are accurately made, the tool holding faces are less critical. I would be tempted by a copy but only if the price is much less, on the basis that I would throw it away if it was a bad fit, and go for a more common and probably less costly QCTH.
    Best Regards:

The Aloris style holder is probably the simplest to make, and I recommend that style of QCTP primarily for that reason (given that all these different types all 'QC' and are all 'TP's')
I guess the decision is how much will it cost you. Those holders look similar to the Dickson type QCTP which is probably why you are getting so many similar holders which are not quite the same.
You mentioned hardening though. While in a commercial shop that may be an advantage, in a home situation you can probably get away without it. I've made holders without hardening and they seem to last. I bought some holders from Shars many years back and they were not hardened and worked fine.

Looks like what is termed an "Italian multifix" by Create tools and the numbering system seems to match, if you didn't want to DIY. Quality of their stuff in the usual 40 position stuff is/was good, despite the country of origin.

Thanks for that Hunch, I will enquire for a price from them. The main reason I want to stay with the Algra QCTP is that I can keep 3 different tools on it at the same time. Most of the others are single or 2 only.

Thanks for that link RC. That was a very good tutorial. I just have to see what material I can buy, I probably want another 6 or so.

I have said this before, but I really do appreciate the extent some members of this forum go to to help us part timers.

I had an Algra on my Bantam lathe but I found they had a weakness in the linkages that applied the pull force to the holder.
I replaced the really bad linkage and got some spares, and then passed on the Algra with the lathe when it was sold.
I purchased an Aloris clone for my current M250 as additional holders are much easier to manufacture.

I did find, however, that the adjustment fixings on the Algra were more convenient then the Aloris clone.
