The Shed
Hi,
I've been in my new place for about 2 years now. I've got a little 4.5 x 3.0 m garden shed all to myself. Yesterday I rearranged it for the umpteenth time! I've taken some photo's of how it is now. Guess what, I'm going to move it all again either tomorrow or the day after. I reckon I'm pretty close to where I want everything.
So far the lathe has only moved once since we moved in, everything else has moved at least twice. On the next move I'm moving the drill press and Hercus mill diagonally across the shed and the table, tool cabinets and everything gets shuffled around again! I hope I like it this time!
I insulated walls and ceiling with plain polystyrene board about 1" thick, the walls have 9mm thick plyboard covering the PS board and there's a whirlybird in the ceiling. I also bought and mounted a wall fan from Bunnings which helps keep the heat down.
Hopefully after the next move everything will be good. Time to make more swarf.
Ben.

Nice layout, thanks for pics and I hope you're not planning on making the item on the poster? The law doesn't like those sort of items around.
Does the 25mm foam lining help with the cooling??

Ritchardson drill press as well. Great old machine. .
Just take moving it. I almost killed my self moving mine once. I was tired , in a hurry and it fell over on me. Luckily I was able to get myself mostly out of the way as it came down. Ended up with a big bruise down my side and my foot caught under the light end (stand) I was wearing safety boots with toe caps and that saved my foot.
Also busted two of the handles off.
Best of for your re-arrangment.

The drill press is a Sterling, made in Northmead at the old factory on Boundary Road. It's bloody heavy, when I first got it I could lift it by myself - not now. I'm going to bolt it to the table before moving it again.
I used to be an armourer for the Army so I've had my fill of playing with weapons but I'd happily make a Lancaster any day!
The PS/plywood works to a certain extent. I put a cheap digital thermometer in the shed, I've been in there when it says 36 degrees + but it doesn't feel that hot (I have been sitting by the pool for the last 3 months soaking up the sun).

Thanks for this Thread Ben you have solved a mystery about my drill press origins, It's identical to yours and branded Autolux, it's a bench topper with round table which i bought from the local garage maker nearly 40 years ago for $80.
Yeah! he didn't miss me it was only worth $50 as it was fairly flogged and still is, but it was my first machine and i had to have it.

Love the shed. Thanks for posting, I really enjoy looking at other peoples sheds. I have lost count of how many times I have moved my machines around before finding a happy, workable location for them.
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Nice to see what can be done with limited space. I currently have a 6x6m double garage shed and wish it was 12x12. But the next months are going to be nervous times for me as it looks like my current rental is going to be sold out from under me and I'm going to have to move.
Current rental vacancies in Hobart are 0.4% - yup, not a typo. 0.4%
And the housing market is through the roof and hugely competitive.
Lets just say that the competition for rentals is crazy, let alone trying to snag one with a garage/shed/workshop - as these are very uncommon in Hobart rentals.
I think I'm actually screwed but I just don't fully appreciate it yet. Fair chance I'll end up packing everything in my workshop up and trucking it up and into a shipping container at my parents house until I can find a favourable time/place to bring it all out to play again.
But seeing what you've managed with that small space gives me a little hope. I'll still have to down size but maybe I can still end up with something workable.
Thanks.
