I have a 50 mm one with slots on the sides and ends, bought from CTC when he was in HK.
Frankly, it's very good. I did replace the short pin which goes through the holes with a longer one with a beveled end. Much easier to use.
The slots on the sides and ends are almost mandatory imho. Trying to use those holes instead ... no thank you.
Cheers

My 80mm vices with holes in the sides are different, the holes are only used for clamping the vice down, the hold down mechanism uses a separate set of ribs.

Well my vice arrived earlier in the week and I must say I am very happy with the quality for the price I paid. Although I have not used it yet, visually it looks good.
Found another hold down method that might work as well whilst I was doing some googling.

Could that let the tail of the vice kick up a bit?
I always clamp my vice down with 4 clamps to avoid that.

For anyone who may be interested, it is possible to mill a slot along the lines of the 8mm dia. holes in the sides of these vices. The vices are hardened and ground and claimed to be 58 – 62 HRC. Obviously way outside the capability of a HSS end mill. I sourced a 65 HRC solid carbide end mill through Aliexpress for $20 and it did the job quite well. The cutter had no problems cutting into the hardened sides of the holes and through the webs but it was not really happy cutting out of the webs into the holes. I made the slots 6mm deep which is the same as on my screwed version of this vice.

Looks identical to my vice. Does it have slots at the ends as well? Mine does, and I clamp there as well.
Cheers

Yes, it has slots on the ends, but IMO these don't give too many options for positioning the vice on the mill table.

Ah - I may be lucky there. My mill table is perhaps not as big as yours, and I can fit 4 clamps around the vice: one on each side. I think I made up the clamps to suit the vice/table, but the result is very secure.
Cheers
