I'm a bit confused as to why you need to use a thicker plate to mount the heavier motor.
Is it because the mounting clamps won't do up on the existing transom?
I'm also a little concerned about the potential for the larger motor (and increased power) could twist the transom.
Lastly, "a bloke on gumtree" selling something similar is hardly a shipwright / boat builder certification.regards from Canmore

Took in some pictures of the boat to a welder today and was quoted a nice price i am happy to pay so it looks like i am keeping the Honda motor i was looking at spending around $200 on nuts and bolts plus the plates, the alloy welder quoted $350 not all that much extra to have the reassurance knowing the few thousand dollar motor wont end up on the bottom of the lake
Ian the thicker plate was just to make it more rigid kind of over constructing it
