Local Agricultural show
We have a local Agricultural Show much the same as the Royal Melbourne Show just on a much smaller scale.
I decided to enter the art & craft competition for something to do and chose to enter 2 devisions under Miscellaneous category.
Metal Work & Up cycling I put 2 items into each.
The items I entered were:
1. Three bowls with copper accents
2. Forged treble clef
3. Railway bridge table, made from reclaimed bridging bolts and timber.
4. Railway watcher sculpture.
I dropped my entries off early and unfortunately didn’t make it to the show due to other commitments this weekend. So I didn’t get to see what the other entries were.
Apparently they changed the table to the Woodwork Category for some reason. To me the important part was the forged mortice and tenon joints holding the legs all together.
Not a bad result for my first ever comp.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Local shows, and even the Capital City ones, will shuffle entries around to suit the section administrators and judges perceptions, and quite often the section admins will have a narrow area of interest within a fairly broad class, or just be there to make things happen and not really have a specific interest in the class at all. They figure that something is better suited to a different class and move it, or move it to make up numbers in another class, then it's beyond the reach of the judges for the original class, because they don't know that it has been moved, and figure that if it is in a woodwork class, it's there to be judged for it's woodwork, and the rest is incidental.
Shame that the metalwork on the table was discounted, but overall your work seems to have been well received and awarded. Congratulations.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Did you complain that your entries were entered in the incorrect category ?
Im sure if scones were entered into cup cakes there would be a major enquiry.

They were entered correctly, one was changed later. I’m not really worried, it got a ribbon anyway.
