Thanks sossity. I do have a little FOS up my sleeve though. The test lift was a metre span with point loading, but the actual lift will be around 850mm span with 4 point loading over 100mm.
It didn't even look like taking on a permanent set, even though I applied a little more "bouncing" load to it.
I'm feeling pretty confident!!! (famous last words. HaHa)
From my limited experience with failing beams, Ie, the engine crane mentioned previously, it happens pretty slow at first and then accelerates.

Is there a reason why you want to orientate the beam at 45 degrees? For example, to gain a little more height? Or are you doing it because you believe it is stronger?
