Things you see rusting in Tassie.
I’m guessing this was used to cut large round leather gaskets?
This has a lot of X travel for such a small table.
There are a few more photos of the shaper on my phone.
Having internet problems so I’ll come back to this.....…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

You've been to New Norfolk haven't you?
That travelling head shaper has been there quite a while. I thought of buying it for a garden ornament but didn't because I may be overcome with the desire to restore it to functionality. I already have too many projects.
Ditto with the litter of Blitz trucks all about the place.

I'm with Alien. I could put that shaper to very good use in my own workshop.

Well, buy it, then. It's for sale - every bit of junk there is for sale. NFI on price as I'm not interested. I can tell you that if you come & get it, it'll cost you at least $1000 in fuel, ferry fares et al and no overnight stops at motels. Assuming you don't bring a trailer - prices on the ferry will be a lot higher then.
I do that trip once, maybe twice a year so I've a pretty good idea on costs. I go through the cost of transport equation every time I see something I want for sale on the big island.

I went with the plan to bring this home.

Since the heart issues I can’t swing my hammer for too long and anyone trying to make any sort of profit from smithing will tell you you can’t do it without one. Moreover it was the missus idea to buy it and it was priced right.
My initial plan was to take the car & trailer over on the spirit of tassie. What a scam that is. They advertise $89 tickets +$99 to take a car. Couldn’t find a ticket under $370 +$99 for the car +$400 for a 6x4trailer +a free for a dorm/room/chair. Since the missus won’t let me go far alone these days. That would be 2 people each way.
We we got flights ea way, rented a car for a week, booked all our accomodation for a lot less. I paid for the power hammer, bought some ratchet straps and put it on a pallet. Shipping door to door (Hobart-Melb) is $212.80 oddly specific price.
I don’t know how much he had on the shaper. I looked at some of the hand tools he had and they were about twice the local used tool retail price here. I discussed this with him and he reasons they cost him more and sells high because of the shortage of options over there.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

He got a lot of that stuff out of an auction over in Queenstown. Not the shaper though, it's been there for a while.
I very carefully didn't go to the Queenstown auction just in case I bought stuff.
Yes it's never been a cheap place to buy stuff which is why a lot of things sit there for many years. IIRC there was a reasonable mill there last time I went plus some old and heavily battered cast iron work tables. Be great for bashing metal on provided you didn't want it to end up flat.
WRT the ferry, best you can generally do is around $400 each way for 2 people & a car but it requires travelling outside peak season and booking a fair way ahead to get a deal on a cabin. As I do it so often I'm in their frequent traveller's club and get advance notifications of special deals etc etc.
Trailers are a real ripoff. Unless it's a camper trailer when all of a sudden it's cheaper. All to do with some esoteric Federal Govt travel subsidy where camper trailers and caravans are passenger thingies and a box trailer is for freight.
I usually ship stuff via Tasfreight.
