Belt splicing
Thanks to a member of this forum I recently acquired my first lathe. It needs a little work and the Dept of Domestic Affairs has been slow to release funding for this project. That may have something to do with the fact that the lathe now occupies her spot in the garage.
I am hoping to shorten and rejoin the existing drive belt, would there be someone local who does this? Or could I get the clips and tool at a reasonable price?
In case I haven't explained this well, this may help.

Mine has that same clipper brand but I'm not religious about the type I use, whatever is available and does the job.

If you can't find the clips you can always stitch them together like this
This was a chisel strop I made from a piece of rawhide.
The holes are drilled with a 1 mm drill bit.

The stitch material on this one is dental floss but I've also done a couple using monofilament fishing line.
Although its a bit of a pain to rejoin I like this method of joining because there's no clicking sound.

braided
The braided fishing line is what is recommended . If you buy it from a fishing tackle store it's expensive stuff. I bought some from ebay china 100lbs rating , much cheaper option. I hate those metal clips , they are OK for a factory environment where the click click noise becomes lost in the background ambient noise

Thanks for your assistance gentlemen, I think I will take Jim up on his kind offer. If the noise proves to be too much then I can always give the dental floss a try.
