    does it have the fixed and travelling steadies and perhaps some chucks. ie 4 jaw and 3 jaw.

    As a matter of interest, what is the spindle bore and what would you use a lathe of that size for, aside from small ship crankshaft?

    110% that's been repainted as others have said. But besides the kack colour looks to be a reasonable job which you don't usually do on a crap machine not worthy of it! Again look around the bed up the front.

    A very simple quick check I'd always do first on a lathe is feel the saddle handle for up and down play. Any lathe that has done a lot of work (even if looked after) will have slop in the saddle handle.

    good luck Macson were a great lathe, if you ever find one of there late model camlock ones grab it !
