caskwarrior and Ropetangler, l only made this cylinder because l couldn't get the cylinder tube in the size that l wanted, both Bohler and Interloy have a good stock of tube and rod and its only a ph call away to see if they have the size you need.
I go to Bohler in Dandenong and buy offcuts from them, you pay by the kg.
I am pretty sure that l have seen burnished tube offcuts there so it might be worth a visit as l don't think they tell you over the phone what is in the offcut shelves, but again a phone call might find what you need.
On the subject of seals, I had a query about my piston seals so I phoned Hallite in Melbourne and spoke to a bloke called Jeff, he was very helpful and it turned out that the seals that I had were not suitable and he gave me the part number for suitable seals to order from my local dealer.
He also emailed to me machining details for the seal grooves for the piston and we also discussed fitting wear rings on the piston, well worth the phone call.
cheers, shed

I rang them today, the first bloke couldn't help with prices so he transferred me to the manager who could only give me vague answers because of the price differences in the different metals.
These prices are only his best guess, so roundabout prices per kilo
1020 $2.00
4140 $2.00 - $3.00
black bar.....cheaper
no cast iron bar??????? maybe he meant offcuts?
they have some hydraulic tube and chrome rod and most other steels in the offcut shelves.
clear as mud, eh !
Phone them before going to make sure that they will have someone available to serve you.
lt is better than the lollie shop, the bloke grabs a trolley and l go l'll have that, l'll have that and that, ect ect ect
whats that? don't think l need that.....but l'll have it anyway
cheers shed
