Default Chuck for unknown Chinese lathe

Our local Mens Shed have been given a large fairly old 7.5 horse power Chinese lathe , it has nothing written on it in English.
It seems like quite a good machine, although it looks like it has had a pretty hard life.

The problem is that it came with no tooling or accessories whatsoever, and only a 3 jaw self centering chuck, 250mm diameter.
The owner purchased it years ago and never used it, and knows nothing about it. It has been sitting in a shed for many years.
It has been decided that the first thing we will do is clean it up and get a 4 jaw chuck for it, and I have been given the job of sourcing the chuck.

The original chuck has 4 studs and a locating dowel, this is mounted to the lathe and held with a rotating ring and then the nuts tightened to secure it.

I have looked everywhere I can think of and have not been able to find a chuck with this type of mounting.

We could make an adapter to fit a readily available chuck I suppose (be a good project), but I am wondering if anyone knows of this type of mount and where we may be able to get one.

I have a picture of the mounting plate, but not of the lathe. I will take some next time I'm there and see if somebody can identify it.

I'm sure with the knowledge available on this Forum, which is extensive, someone will know all about it.

    Thanks,

Is it a DIN55027 type spindle nose?

Thank you gentlemen for your prompt replies,

It is very like DIN55027 but it has no taper and also the mounting stud spacing is different to any listed.
I will be at the mens shed in the next couple of days I'll take some more pictures and some accurate measurements.

Here are more photos of the spindle nose and also the lathe.
The spindle nose is 180mm diameter and the stud spacing is 148mm .
The lathe is quite large with a swing over the bed of about 580mm and distance between centers of around 1200mm.
The nameplate has a spot for the date of manufacture but nothing is stamped on it.

Sorry some of the pics are sideways

I am guessing it is something they have borrowed from some UK lathe manufacturer. Lang for example made their own spindle nose design that other manufacturers borrowed.

I think you are out of luck to find a new one. It obviously uses the OD as a locator.

Does that knurled ring on the spindle rotate independently of the main spindle, and does it also have elongated holes?
In regards to a mounting / backing plate one would just need to be made to suit your chuck with correct PCD and locateing pin.

    .
    Yes
I'm thinking the best way to go, would be to buy a readily available chuck and make an adapter to suit.
I am planing to take that idea back to the next meeting and see what the rest of the fellas think about it.

    Thanks for your input
