It looks like Ash's lathe has a 22T gear on the front tumbler.
If Ash can measure the outside diameter of this gear we can determine the DP/MOD more accurately.

If you are out of luck, then check the distance D1 and D2 together with exiting gears, you will be able to get one made.

This is a 40T Hercus gear that matches mine. Would the 16 mean 16DP? OD is around 66.6mm.

    Hi Gents
I ran Hare and Forbes, and as Roger suggested, given it was not one of their lathes they couldn't help.
He suggested I contact Quality Machine Tools which I have done and sent a couple of photos to them to see if they can help.
Fingers now crossed. If not I'll do some measuirng as you suggest and see if soemone will make me one.

    Hi Ash,

Did any other gears come with the lathe?
Looking at your picture it appears to be a imperial lead screw, with a 120/127 compound gear for metric pitches or vice versa. So I'd think there should be some more gears. I cant see a metric threading chart though.
Do you want to cut metric threads?
Just that while you're chasing up gears you may as well get them all if you'll need them.
A better picture of the charts on the front of the lathe may help.

    Hi Stuart

No gears came with lathe. I would ideally like to cut metric threads one day. So the best thing would be to change all the gears?

Photo of chart below. It is exactly the same as one I found on a Honden L-900B

    Hope this helps.

No luck with Quality Machine Tools either. Didn't want to know anything about it. Bugger.

If you are really patient and supply the stock and a drawing i would be happy to make the gear for You, but i don't have a heap of workshop time at the moment, if you have a mill i could also lend a dividing head on a short term basis.

    Hi Ash,
given that you are in Moama and I'm in Bendigo, why don't you come and visit one day soon, and bring the gear you have with you. I have a largish collection of gears of that size and may well have what you need. The prerequisite is of course that you figure out what number of teeth the missing gear was. Have you tried putting the one you have in the place of the missing one yet to see if it meshes there?
    Cheers, Joe

Hi Caskwarrior, thanks for your generous offer. I have received the same generous offer from another member (as well as a lot of great advice).

I am astounded at the generosity of the people on this forum.

Thanks again and I will keep your offer in mind.

    Regards

    Ash

    Hi jhovel
Thanks to you too for your generous offer. I would love to take you up on the offer. I will keep researching the gear I am missing and get back to you.
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting you in Bendigo (hopefully) soon.
I haven't tried the existing gear as you suggest. I didn't think of trying that, but I will this weekend and let you know.
    Regards
    Ash
