    Default Cash T&C grinder

I recently swapped some money for som Cash - a CC model D tool and cutter grinder. I paid to much for it.
how do you adjust or set the spindle bearings, and what does the machine use for lubrication.
e spindle is very stiff and not consistent during a rotation. If it starts, it will go for a couple of seconds then slow and stop. It doesn't seem warm to touch.

You will get a better idea of whats going on if you pull it apart and clean everything and check for worn out parts .

Assuming you are talking about the CC Engineering model D TCG, there are several threads on here about them, lots of photos to look at. On early models the spindle runs in substantial split bronze bushes, screws in the casing allow you to adjust the clearance between the shaft and the bush. On later models the spindle runs in bearings. The spindle housing is partially oil filled to provide lubrication in either case.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. I had a look in the weekend and the spindle has a thread and nut on the right hand end that pulls up on a bush. adjusting this and good lubrication made a difference.
photos coming later. It has seen a bit of life, with the grey paint coming off easily with baby blue paint underneath that was applied with a worn out toothbrush... doesn't seem to be much wear on the slides.
it didn't come with much tooling and of course no instructions. There is a motor driven centre which I am not sure how to use, and a pair of dead centres that look like mice have been having a go at them. I cobbled up a jig for drill grinding, but it is not as good as it should be. Anyone have any pics of tooling, jigs
or similar, or instructions of how to use it?

I've got one Geoff, but with no tooling, so I envy your motor driven centre.
I use mine as a very simple surface grinder , holding small pieces onto the table with small super magnets or a tool vice.
I started a thread a couple of years ago here on it's rebuild if it's any help for yiou

Cash was a Melbourne company and not related to CC Engineering of Sydney....
I can't recall if Cash made a T&C grinder, but C C certainly did. I too have a small model CC with ball bearing spindle.
I also know the grandson of the Cash family (because I have a Cash horizontal mill) and will ask him next time I speak to him if they ever made a T&C grinder.....
    Good find!

99% sure Cash did make a bigger T&C grinder at least, about the size of a Hercus. Friend of mine has one rusting away outside his shed. It was still restore-able the last time I saw it, but I doubt it ever will be.

This post jogged the mind to get back to assembling a bit more of this one. Could someone with one clarify the spindle length on the left side. The one in this one looks a bit dodgy. It had all the adjusting screws for the bronze bearing but has had ball races fitted at some stage of it's life. Would be good to get the boat anchor off the bench although it may be of some use!! Other than the centres for the table (not complete by the way) there was no other attachments with it.
