Tafe
Views of the TAFE with the stuff for sale . I took these pics when I was a student there . I didn't see that hor. borer they have IN THE SALE. They had a nice setup for case hardening and heat treating .One of the teachers made a clutch plate for his Harley and did the heat treatment . Shame if it is closing down. I liked using the green Le blonds , the Colchester copies were less ergonomic !

I am astonished how many Le Blond 15" Regal Servo Shifts there are in Australia. You try to find a post ww2 era US made manual lathes in Australia and they are very rare, but there seems to have been quite a few of these Le Blonds bought by government.
Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

One of the teachers told me the Le Blonds were made in Singapore ?? Seems a strange place to be making lathes A word of caution to any buyers. They did have a few older Colchesters like the ones you see in the sale, they were not in use when I was there . Those older and well used Colchesters may have faults which are probably very expensive to repair . The newer Colchester lookalikes in the pics were in use but as I wrote, I was told they are Asian copies.

That looks like a typical TAFE set up. Holmesglen in Moorabbin was similar with old and newer Colchesters and LeBlond Regals which looked well used. They also had HAAS CNC lathes that were new and not used. Most sold off now.
thanks for the photos.
cheers
Bill.

Keep in mind that all these machines have been well tried out by students. There is not much made that is student proof.
Some of the little darlings seem to make their whole purpose for being there, to try and bust something (without being caught of course).
I work for TAFE NSW and have done for about 25 years now (geez has it been that long?)
Have worked in various areas and seen some pretty sad things done to equipment. A lot of obviously deliberate.
