Default C.C Model D Tool and Cutter Grinder

Rather than dig up an old thread, a question on this grinder to see if anyone has pics/details of table extensions to cover the slides from grit damage. There are tapped holes in the table ends but as yet haven't found any details of these items. The earlier model which was posted on the forum some time back had shorter cross slide table ways so didn't have this problem

Gradually getting the "scrap iron" back together!

You can see the plates to hold felts I presume,I have the same machine as your pics , it came with small plates and felts for the forward /backward ways but lacked the ones in the above attached pic , can send some pics of them tomorrow if you would like them.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks Jim. Maybe it never had anything on the ends other than the felt wipers. Even the pic I found with the swivelling table shows nothing. I'll pm my email address so you can send me some pics. The spindle also looks a bit short on my one if it were to be used for surface grinding.

    Hi Rusty,
The previous owner to me had hand cut pieces of aluminium sheet to hold felt wipers in place . Not very eligant but I assume a facsumilie of the original.
I am in awe of your scraping and the finish of your tables. I was of two minds to even show you a pic of my restoration.

That tells me a bit more BrianGoldcoast! Any restoration is worth doing! I have the lower dovetail wiper parts but not the zero plate. I wondered what the tapped holes were beside the T-slot. I also don't have the tapped holes in the table for the swivelling table but now I can see what the length of a swivelling table should be.

Looking at your pics, I think my one is a slight different model D mark xxx as in the pic of the green one in previous post. The table stop rod on my one is on the back nearest to column (as I got it!!) and there is a stop pin screwed into the saddle. There is no bit of angle as some pics show just to the right of the traverse pinion shaft. The tapped holes for the swivelling table zero scale is on the RH end whereas yours is on the LH side

The table surface was in great shape so I thought I'd pretty it up a bit with the scraper. Had to make a new pinion shaft. That's back in now and time to look at the cross feed nut and screw. Only slight backlash in the thread so will split the nut so it can either be clamped or spread. Might go the spread path so I can use grub screws to do the job. Will post more pics as it progresses.

    Hi Rusty,
There was a lot of 'blacksmith' type modifications on my machine and like you it took me a while to sort out how it worked.
I also needed a motor and drive belt as well as hours of rust removal and thick grime. I could not shift the cast iron base and welded up a stand from 50mm RHS.
Theres a thread back about 12 months in here of the progress and questions with a few pics. I had not even seen one before.
Currently I use it as a light surface grinder and while its ont a toolshop quality machine it does an adequate job for the small jobs and infrequent use I put it to.
If I can send you any pics that could be useful to you--just ask.
    regards
    Brian

    Default table extensions

Are you still after photos of table extensions?

My newly acquired model D has a metal set.

That would be great Jon. I've been sidetracked with other projects but should get back to this one.
