Wow that is an unusual thread size, BSW from memory is 12 TPI. Why they can't use standard bolts is beyond me, I suppose it's a bit like Caterpillar gear, they use unusual sizes also. Probably if something lets go you have to pay $$$$ for it, as you can't go to the green shed to get a replacement.

The things you learn. 1/2" 14 is a UNS "unified special" thread. I have another cross threaded tapped hole and it is 3/16" 40. Seems that is UNS as well .... and I ain't got no way to clean it up. I tried for about 20 mins to get the f*@king bolt in and had to walk away .... ) "You win today evil UNS".

FWIW Victor list both 1/2 x 14 taps and dies among their special stock sizes. They don't show 3/16 x 40 but do show 5/32 x 40, and say they will make specials - no idea what these would cost though. Their prices for stock UNS sizes seem to be quite reasonable. It's often worth checking their website or unusual thread pitches.
Special pitch taps - sizes to 1/2 inch - 1000's of specials in stock and most custom taps made in 24 hours. - special threads.
High Speed Round Adjustable Dies - special thread up to 1/2".

3/16"-40 might be easier to find than you think. Look for "ME" threaded bolts. They are all 40tpi. If not, you can certainly get taps and dies.

Thanks for the link Frank. Nice one. Hi Joe, re the 3/16 40. Yes, uncle Google reveals the model engineering crew use it a bit. A good start - though I'll go back and have another go a it for sure. Hopefully this time without feeling like I need to smash something. )

For what is it worth, I have ordered some stuff from McMaster Carr and it is on the way to Florida - tracking nr and everything.
I use myus.com - they give you an address in the US. Was all pretty straight forward. No fuss. I made a small order just to see if it would be sent - that is, maybe they have some manual controls that someone vetoes shipping addresses etc. But nope. So, I'll order a few more knick knacks. )
Btw, myus.com consolidates stuff into a single box. They'll hold things for a month before you start paying a holding fee. Service is pretty good - though I'm not sure they use the cheapest shipping rate - but it sure is cheaper than shipping separately. 30 'gits' oiler cups on the way ... )

G'day Greg,
It might be good to get some tapered slip stones added, I would take a couple. PM has some links on where to buy.

Thanks.
We eventually PM'd on this forum and sorted it out. All going well I'll be putting some of these in the MyUs.com box:

Ain't some people great
A small update.
When I picked up the grinder from the farm "at an undisclosed location north of Melbourne" it had no magnetic chuck. The shed that housed the grinder body/table is a large shed jammed with stuff. Lots of stuff. And I mean jammed.
I asked the owner if he ever came across a mag chuck for it then I'd be interested.
Well, he SMS'd me this week to say that there was a mag chuck in the shed behind some stuff and I was welcome to come and get it. Ain't some people great!
The good news is that it is the full monty. An 8x16 unit - the right size for this machine:

The bad news is it is as dead as a doorknob. Hardly a whisker of magnetism left when engaged. I've been doing some of the usual Google research and, though tricky it sounds like it could be brought back to life. There are even services in Melbourne to remag it, so it seems. I'll do some more research.
But, wait, there's more.
The mag chuck gift was incredibly kind thing of him to do. I was very happy.
But he shoots off around the back of a large old Hardinge CNC machine to a cupboard and brings out this to say I could have it also. It is Browne and Sharpe radius dresser I believe. Amazing.

I think it can also do straight angles, that will sure come in handy. I'll being trying to find a manual for it.
I've not actually asked him if I could mention him here so, for now, I'll say a massive public thank you to him for his incredible kindness and generosity. Makes you want to do something nice for someone else dunnit.
Ain't some people great.

Hi Greg,
That radius dresser is a rare find. I believe that they came with a tool set as well. I've only ever seen one, many years ago, and it was treated with very great care.Best Regards:
