Default Tailstock Barrel Key - Colchester Master

The barrel key on my lathe tailstock was pretty worn and beat up allowing quite a bit of slop in the keyway, which does not really effect anything but, has always annoyed, me so I made a new one, or two, actually. This is a really simple part but requires quite a few different processes in it's manufacture.

The first step was to turn and mill them slightly oversize to allow for final grinding to size after hardening. Material is EN36A,30mm Diameter.

    That's neat.
    Was the original key hardened?
What grit is the grinding wheel you used? I'm curious as I want to buy the right one for my recently acquired surface grinder.

Yes, the original was hardened and had been welded at some stage. The grinding wheel is a 60 grit aluminium oxide.
