Best place to buy spare quick change tool holders from?
Hi all,
Just wondering where the best place to buy spare quick change tool holders from, I would like to stock up as it is not ideal to change tools from holder to holder, it should be quick after all It gets old pretty quick!
I would like to buy between 5 - 10 holders. I would be looking at the 250-101 or 250-102 holders. The 102's have a groove in the bottom, assuming for round tools. Any reason why I wouldn't get them all like this as you could use flats in them as well and they are the same price.
ozmestore has them for $33 each which starts to add up when you buy larger quantity's, is there any other suppliers around that they could be bought cheaper? Overseas perhaps?
If only I had a mill or perhaps shaper then I'd have a go at it myself.
Thanks in advance

Try contacting them and see if they can do a better deal for the qty required.

Are they to suit a piston type or wedge.

CDCO have always had low prices for their tool holders, at the the moment B series are US$11 or US$12 a piece. From memory you can get a batch of 12 in a US$80 20lb flat rate box, which at 72c exchange rate means they are going to owe you AU$26 a piece sitting on your bench.
These guys are offering singles for AU$34 posted.

A while ago these holders were so cheap you wouldn't consider making your own, now I'm not so sure.

Is there a difference between the wedge and piston type, most place seem to list them as being the same?

As far as I'm aware they're the same.
I bought a heap from CDCO, but it's been a while now. Like others, I wish I'd bought more, it seems like it's impossible to buy too many tool holders!
Personally I prefer the ones without the groove for normal tooling, but some with the groove are handy for round tools. The complete flat just feels more solid to me.

The ones i have from CDCO are a bit short, and the grub screw quality is crap. That was 3? years ago now. I have since bought some more from Little machine shop that are far better quality, but they are more expensive too. I think there is a photo comparison in the favorate tooling supplier thread.
As soon as i can afford it i will be getting a larger multifix, the BXA is too small for the machine i have it on now, so maybe there might be a wedge type and about 30 holders (some i made plus the bought ones) for sale soon....
Actually I think i have a heap of blank holders made, just the dovetail and tool slot cut, i could part with some if your interested in finishing them.1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Could be interested in the blanks, would just need some measurements to make sure they will fit. So they would just need drilling and taping for the grub screws?

I think so, let me check tomorrow. They are the standard size for BXA.

That's not too bad. Where they easy to deal with and how long did the delivery take.

About a week, I bought other stuff as well so it pays to play around with the balancing of the order and shipping. The tool holders are good quality also.
