Mens sheds Ryde Sydney area
I've got a 3 phase gas only MIG welder that is in good working condition but I no longer need it. Thinking of offering it as a donation to a men's shed but as I'm only in Sydney for a few months a year, I've no idea which ones are interested in metalworking as I know some are into wood working only.
Anyone have any clues which shed(s) have a serious metalwork interest close to Ryde?

Yeah not many mens sheds I know are onto metal work and few are into it seriously. I'm lucky our shed coordinator is an ex boilermaker and metal work instructor so he strongly supports metal working activities and we have a number of members with metal work experience so it figures reasonably well in our profile. We have an 85 year old turner/machinist with 70 years experience and he still does custom work for a few select clients. We also recently picked up a member who serviced welders and plasma cutters, and has experience as a welding inspector and instructor - pretty handy guy to have on the team as he is able to look after all our older welders.

Under the Special Interest section there is a Mens Shed / Men in Sheds sub forum, you could try posting a thread there, to see who might be interested.

Good on you for the offer, PDW.
I'm sure it can find a good home.
I'll ask at Strathfield- we have 2 MIGs at the moment.
However one is privately owned on loan and the other is ancient and unproven.
This generous offer may tease out other metal club interests in the Sydney region...
cheers,

This is a JIC 3 phase industrial unit and last time I used it, was working fine. Set up for 0.9mm wire, 250A max capacity but minimal duty cycle at that current however runs 0.9mm wire all day. It's quite heavy, I might add, one of the transformer types.
I just don't have gas up here any more and have a much newer inverter type MIG in my Tasmanian workshop. I can get by just fine with a breadbox stick welder here when I need to weld something.
Drop me a PM if the shed is interested - I'm at Ryde. I'd rather it went somewhere useful to a bunch of people so a metalworking men's shed is my preference.
