Default A nice day for a visit

Today I ventured south to pick up my new surface plate from R.C

After coffee and cake we loaded the plate into the trailer. I wasn't taking any chances so it was well restrained.

I thought a 1000 x 600 mm surface plate was pretty big until I saw Richards replacement. What a colossal slab it is. If you've seen "2001 A Space Odyssey" imagine the monolith lying on a frame and you've got the picture.

As always Richard was generous with his time and knowledge and gave me a scraping refresher course.

The plate is now safely in my shed and awaiting being put to use.

Space is a bit tight at this time but a plate of this size will probably never turn up locally again so I took the opportunity when it was presented.4

Thanks again to Richard for his kind help.

    John

    Default Good taste.

    Hi John.
I see from your second pic you also have the good taste to own a Datsun 1600.

Jim. Actually it's one of 3 I currently have. Just as some people collect multiple lathes or mills I have an excess of 1600's

    Hi.
If you would like another, No 2 son has an unmolested auto sitting around looking lonely down here,he and his brother are more into 1200s.

    Jim.
I've managed to sneak a granite plate into the shed. Somehow I don't think another car would go unnoticed.

Good to see you got it successfully re-assembled, I imagine all the safe work statements were correctly filled out and the lifting equipment was properly tagged and tested... Much like we did here earlier when putting it in the car...

Gold, the colour of choice for the discerning person.

Absolutely, although dangling the block off my engine crane gave some anxious moments but it all went pretty smoothly.

Scraping tomorrow, remembering to keep the lines straight.
