The price blew us both away (the BIN price is around A$3,500) - for those not fluent in German, the vice has been repainted and both the handle and base are new).

Default Follow up question for Bob

I noticed the Schaublin vice appearing in the machine feet thread, looking in great condition. After two years, can you give us a run down on how you find it Bob? Does it use up more Z than is comfortable? How often does the swivel feature get used? Is it the 'go to' vice?

    Hello Michael,

The 36 is the vice of choice for the 13. Z is always an issue. I can use my direct fit ISO 30 collets to hold a cutter or drill when a chuck mounted cutter or drill won't squeeze in above the vice. The rotating jaws are a fantastic feature of the vice enabling work to be clamped in position away from the confines of the vertical head, then rotated 90 degrees to fit below a spindle mounted cutter. A project where the rotating jaws have been used to advantage is the incredibly drawn out woodie plane. This photo probably sums it up best.....

Geez BT, whatever happened to that vertical head? It appears to have travelled The Gibb River Road in the back of the ute. Still a nice photo though, in fact make that very nice

Wear and tear from its years at the WRE in Salisbury Rob. It had been my intention to repaint the head when I painted the vice but the colour was out of whack so it didn't happen. It does look nasty though, probably time for more tinkering with the tints.

It looks pretty good to me Bob for a 50± year old machine, I just wish my body had stood up to time as well.
That vice does look nice, it might be a good colour for the mill.

Back in post 3, Ash asked about the hinged pin spanner that Bob has. I spotted one at work today and so snuck a look at the branding. The brand is AMF, a German company, and these pin wrenches still appear in the catalogue that I looked through today.

I just bought some AMF T slot bolts for my mill (special strange ones for my odd slots) they are stocked by a joint called maxiloc in Melbourne, run by a really nice guy too.
