    Default X2 Modifications

Has anyone done a 2 speed belt drive conversion on the X2 minimill? Tired of replacing stripped/shattered gears. Also looking at fitting a reversing switch, which wires are cut into? Am looking for the belt size and diameters of the pulleys used, searched Google, plenty of designs and details, but no pulley sizes. Can't work out how to get the speeds versus diameters, using the same size belt. Pulleys will be about 19 mm and 80 mm for low speed, looking to get around 1500 and 2800 RPM max, motor is variable speed. If someone could work this out for me, I would be really appreciative.
YES I FAILED MATHS at school .
    Thanks

Kryn, my first mill was an X2 and I always intended to convert it to belt drive, but I got sidetracked and sucked in to buying a DM45

However I did collect a lot of info on the various belt drives, one of which I have attached as it gives some sizes you are after.

I am happy to stick the whole folder of stuff I have collected on a disc and post it to you if you want.

I bought one of the Stirling Steel kits that are still sold by the Little Machine Shop in the US. Price has certainly gone up since I bought mine.

Another option is this one by Hoss. Plans available.
Check out all the other mods he made to his X2

I could measure the bits on my belt drive if you want to go DIY.

Thanks for that Big Shed, would appreciate the disc . Please let me know costs and acc. details so I can do an EFT to cover costs. I looked at that site, interesting reading.
I probably do a WIP with details, so that others can do it also, if there are requests to do so. It's a beggar having to wait for parts, only a couple of days longer from the US than Qld.

Thanks for that snowyskiesau, would really appreciate that, as I'd be re inventing the wheel, and DIY is saving that plastic stuff that is hard to keep hold of.
    Thanks

Here's another one to ponder on over the weekend whilst you wait for the disc (which is ready to post)

Downloaded from the internet at some stage, has good drawings.

    Kryn.
Attached spreadsheet with pulley sizes that can be changed to suit whatever centre distance between pulleys on the X2 you like.

    X2 Mill Pulley Sizes.xlsx

I will find the link to my X2 belt conversion and post it later.

Thanks everyone for the heaps of information, very useful. Thanks Andrew for the spreadsheet and post on your conversion. I looked in the search area but nothing much came up, obviously I didn't look hard enough.
    Thanks once again
