Either that or it has the flashest coolant pump I've seen.(though the motor mounting looks like it could use some work)

    I think you're really wrong.
I think I'd rather have a lathe without power feed than a SG without power feed. Can you get by without it? Sure, but you could also get by without a bandsaw and just use a hand powered hacksaw .
Still, for the most part we have to take what we can find, fit and power, so if its a choice between "manual feed" and "none at all" then manual it must be*.

Wow that would be a big statement to make.
All the ones I've had enough to do with to know are.....but thats well short of "all" of them.

*though so far it seems I've in fact chosen "none at all", nut I havent been looking that hard.

Well thanks for the lesson AND the entertainment! Knowing all the machines you have I find it amusing that you're only looking for a sg only recently!

Yes I guess its like buying a used car.... you dont always get to choose the colour! All things being equal, do you have a prefered make/model? And why? Im kinda under the impression that if any of the machines are in "reasonable" condition then for my basic use they are all much of a muchness!

Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

I would have been more interested if the seller hadn't been bidding on it himself.

I cant really make much of a comment about that...... other than sentimental reasons and a story from an old guy at a Grays auction. I used a J&S** for a lot of years, seemed good to me*. Chatting with the old guy about the Z powerfeed on a J&S, he told me "J&S are the only people that make surface grinders", I looked at him strangely "oh lots of other people try". I feel pretty safe saying he my have been overstating the case a little.
That said, all the other grinders I've used have worked.

I know Phils SG as a constant cross feed feature which is pretty cool.

*maybe much like using a multiflex tool post......its the only QCTP I have ever used. I didnt know how good I had it

**now its been awhile, but if I recall correctly they have an adjustable plain spindle bearing, I assume it would be irreplaceable??
