    Default VFD Remote Cable

I have been trying to find a longer cable for the control panel of my Huanyang VFD. I have the VFD mounted inside an enclosure and the control panel stuck to the front of the enclosure. I need enough length to allow the lid to swing back. About 400mm. It is a 10 pin IDC connector at both ends.

I have had very little success. Can anyone point me to a source.

Pretty sure Rs has the cable and the plugs. I'll dig it out shortly when I'm on pc.

They are quite easy to make up yourself and as ST says RS, and Altronics and Jaycar also have the parts.

    And if you need help

Thanks guys. I did a search on Jaycar for "10 pin IDC". This did not provide what I wanted. I noticed a picture in the "Related products" which produced "10 Way IDC Line Socket".

I will check at a Jaycar dealer this afternoon when I go into town for an appointment. If no luck there I will order the bits online.

A further check showed a lack of 10 way ribbon cable. Sigh. I guess that you just buy 16 way and rip off what is not needed.

It is probably a matter of using a different search term!

I will post an update in my lathe thread shortly about the layout. I am using an external pot. I had a look at my meagre store of electronic components. I found about 3 pots. After a bit of research, I found that I had exactly the right pot as quoted in the manual. 100k Log. It has probably been bouncing around in boxes for 20yrs. I will buy another one this afternoon. I would hate to find it does not work. The pot is mounted on the door of the main enclosure, just below the remote. The switches (For, Rev, Stop, EStop) are mounted on elec enclosures, attached to the side of the main enclosure. I am using recycled stuff where possible at the moment. I am still waiting on the switches to arrive from Hongkong. Another week or 2.

The remote will only be used for adjusting settings.

I have read the pdf and have had a few things clarified. Like the 1.27mm and 2.5mm spacing. I presume this is the right spacing although I have seen mention of 2mm spacing.

I have probably thrown out 10 of these cables over the years from old computers.

You have lost me with the
(the have hoz but not vert)
    . Mounting format I presume?

Ok, maybe I made a mistake with the 100k pot, but I will buy a new one this afternoon. All good. Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure where the 100k came from.

A quick check of the pot and printed manual tells me that I was wrong. I will buy a 10k pot log this afternoon. I hope I will also get the bits for a longer remote cable.

Yes. Jaycar have plenty of 10k pots that will do the job if you dont want to mount the pot in the blank spot in the VSD panel.

    That is what I thought.

I am going to a store that carries Jaycar products, not a Jaycar store, so I may not get anything! Luckily I have no intention mounting a pot in the panel.

Jaycar don't carry the right pot for the Huanyang keypads. They can order them for you though....

May have been a typo, but Dean, you said "I will buy a 10k pot log this afternoon" - you need a LINEAR pot (lin not log). Just in case ....

Hmmm. Plucked it out of my memory. As I stayed home sick today with reason, I am not about to trust my memory. Thanks for mentioning that Joe. What I did not mention is the messing around I went to in determining the breed of the one I have (100k) New and old codes the same for each. "A" from memory. "A" in old code is the opposite type to "A" in the new code. It turned out I had a "B" which had a much clearer provenance. Anyway, I am going to buy both. I will be leaving in a few minutes, so I am glad you posted, and I checked.
