Shaper vice ID
Hi One you clever guys may be able to ID the vice on my shaper ? It appears to be a non-standard ATALS vise ?

Thanks for that . So do you have the rest of the ATALS (sic) machine, or just the vise ? The vise I pictured seems to be for round stock - but I could possibly make some flat jaws for it .

I don't own an Atlas shaper Mike. I have a Douglas. The photos were some I saved years ago, back when all this stuff was new and appealing to me. I had wanted to make a vice for my Hercus mill so I collected images for inspiration. South Bend's vice had more appeal because of its simplicity. I ended up buying a beater Hercus vice and fixing it.

Hi Morrisman.
It certainly looks like a special for round stock - but I doubt its a shaper vice. They normally have their movable jaw pulled not pushed and are most often held by 4 T-bolts or nuts. The reasons for this were discussed here in another shaper thread.Cheers, Joe

HI,
Looks modern, its all sharp and angles, maybe machined from a big block of steel? Not rounded from a cast type vice.
