Default Day two at Lake Goldsmith

Day two of the scraping reunion was out at Lake Goldsmith Steam Engine Rally.
I was joined by Ray (RayG), Josh (brobdingnagian), Joe (jhovel) and Rob (ropetangler).
It was their 100th Rally and had to be seen to be believed.
    Here are some pics

Ray and I were looking for the Ruston engine and couldn't find it.

    Nice pics Phil.
Love that sewing machine, just don't put your fingers too close, they will be stitched to the fabric

    Default An amazing event..

Thanks Phil for the Ruston Video, beautiful machine...

Here are a few pictures of random things, first up a bit of serious machinery, the restoration was only completed a few days before the event, and
believe it or not they lost the bucket... Phil tells me they used these machines on the Panama canal.

There was a row of parked traction engines, I think 6 or 7, and they really looked the goods..

This one was done up in "fairground" style, nice barley twist!

This one is something special, the "Rolls Royce" of traction engines, and I'd guess pretty valuable...

I've always wanted to see a real "STEAM" roller, here's Phil (aka Mr Steam) trying to look casual..

All in all a magical day, I wish I knew enough to ask intelligent questions, but I know pride, passion and commitment when I see workmanship like that which was on display at Lake Goldsmith

    Regards
    Ray

Great pics Ray ('cept the last one of course).
I was asked to go out on the Monday to drive one of the traction engines.
I took the camera out and managed to take absolutely no pics. (a bit busy)

    Hi Guys,

Looks like a great time was had by all. Thanks so much for the photos. The steam shovels have me fascinated. Thanks for the youtube link on the Panama canal.

    Default Lake Goldsmith?

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the steam rally, so ask, is the facility at Lake Goldsmith open all year round to visitors?

This response hasn't taken long at all Ken
    Apologies.
Lake Goldsmith steam and engine rally is held twice a year. Around the first weekend in May and around the first weekend in November
They have a website (I think)
It is only open to members to go there if they have a spare moment.
