Thread: Carbide Tips for and old Sandvik Head

I am looking for some cheap tips for an old Sandvik Head (like 20 years old) Any ideas? Next question: Did any company anywhere make a standard tip? ....like they do with taps?

The only place I know of to get QUALITY cheap indexable tips is Ebay.

It's pot luck. Put in a saved search for the insert ID and wait. Mitsubishi, Sandvik etc insets can be picked up for a fraction of dealer prices.

If you mean cheap inserts as in made in India cheap, that's something I wouldn't recommend.

There is a standard for cutting inserts - in the way they are manufactured to set specification indexes.

BUT given the huge range of styles, shapes, applications etc possible between different tooling manufacturers and their product range, that's about where it ends.

You need to find the mill head ID and cross reference to the correct insert, or measure an existing insert dimensions and match it to a supplier catalogue.

Looked on Ebay but there are so many different types. I think it might be worth my while to toss this head and get something new ...with lots of tips.

What markings if any is on the head?
Is this a milling cutter,turning tool boring tool,interchangeable head etc.
