What's with the name calling?
I'm getting more than a little concerned that some name calling has started to creep into posts on the forum.
I like many others come here to learn, to share experiences and to encourage others. When we get to a situation where members can not say things without the possibility of others being derogatory or condescending towards them and others we lose the opportunity to help others and learn things ourselves.
I have learnt many things from forums like this and continue to do so. I occasionally say or do things that are wrong and don't mind being corrected - provided it is in a polite and does not denegrate.
Those who wish to belittle others who have made different choices (whether that be in what they do or what they have), please remember that we are not all the same and no one gets it right all the time. If you wish to elevate yourselves by putting others down, please find another forum.

See here for how to report posts.
Mods and admins sometimes have bother deciding whether people are genuinely having a go or are mucking around. I have censored posts before only to discover the posters knew each other and were just clowning around. Best way to manage this stuff is to report it, then the admin team can review it.

An awful lot of meaning gets lost through posts on forums. It's very important that if your post is meant as light hearted fun then you need to make sure the intended person will see it that way. These things help (are they called emicons? I don't know)
Then again if anyone finds it necessary to belittle someone else on a forum then perhaps they should just find another way to pump their own tyres up.

I too have to echo RC's sentiments.... Michael, would you please identify the thread? I haven't notices any name calling here - other than self-inflicted... I think I called myself a 'twit' in a post recently, or an 'old fart' .... or some such thing....

Guys, I agree it's one of the best forums around. However, having seen how other forums have deteriorated when members dispute other's views in less than polite and respectful terms, I thought I'd raise the issue before it became entrenched practice.

Michael, I don't think it's entrenched and neither will it be. See above admin comments about reporting posts etc. This forum is judiciously and cared for by some great mods. Being woodies, we all have differing opinions on everything which will provoke some robust debate in good spirt. For example, let me start an argument now:

So, basically, you're complaining about a non-problem.
Logic - if it isn't *current* practice, then it can't become *entrenched* practice.
I assume you're not a member of PM and/or don't follow a couple of the forums there. Wonderful examples of excellent moderation and appalling moderation all at the same site.

I don't think it would help to identify the thread, Suffice to say that these forums are generally pretty good and everyone should consider that people have varying backgrounds when they write a post. Just bear in mind that on these forums we have labourers, tradesmen, business owners, CEOs and directors, judges, police, lawyers, scientists, doctors, musicians, physicists, politicians, public servants, Defence personnel, children, retirees etc.
The person who is denigrated may not know much about a given topic, that is why they ask questions, but that does not mean they are uninformed overall.
Quite often we ask people to 'play the ball and not the man', we would hope people would do that as a matter of course.
