Default Need some pins machined up

    G'day Guys

I have to replace the bushes and pins in my 4 in 1 bucket on the Bobcat soon and will need a couple of pins turned up with a shoulder to pressed the old bushes out.

Will be using my crane to hold the bucket vertically in the press once I've pulled it apart.

So will require one 30mm approx plus shoulder, so say 32mm to 34mm and around 200mm long. And one at 32mm plus shoulder, so say 34mm to 36mm and around 150mm long. Both will need to be slightly undercut so that they press on the outer edge of the bushes as they are fairly worn.

Final sizes will be measured sometime over the next few days, just need to get some feelers out to get a start on who might do it for me and once organised we can get the ball rolling.

Anyone interested and idea of approximate cost? Happy to pay for postage as well and would like them out of something a bit harder than mild still, will take suggestions of suitable materials.

    Cheers

    Hi,
I can't help with the making of the pins, but i have a few old ones and i'm sure the guy that gave them to me when he replaced them said they were 4140 - chrome-moly. They also appear to be case hardened, but it could just be work hardening. New bushes can be made from plastics these days so the cost is alot less than it was, not sure on the grades though, you'll need to talk to a bearing shop.

    Cheers for that Ewan.

I should clarify that I'm after pins to press the old bushes out, I already have the new pins and bushes. Bushes are made from some sort of hardened material and ground.

And the pins look to have been case hardened.

I will measure the final sizes sometime over the next few days as I'm waiting for my verniers to be returned, so that I can measure them properly.

Azzrock, I'm in the Yarra Valley in Victoria.

Bisalloy is a bit off overkill for a nock out punch . It will be hard to turn.
All you need is some Bohler K110 and air harden it after turning as it will not change dimentions much if any. As it is only a knock out punch it does not need to be a high tolerance part or last forever .

The way I read it he has the new pins and bushes already and he only needs two knock out punches to press the old bush out and then press the new bush in.
Bisalloy would make a good replacement pin for sure but it is a bit of a waste on a knock out punch that will be used once then lay in the shed getting rusty .
Hey but if you have it why not.

Bit hard to use Bisalloy as a pin....

It only comes in plate form...

Yes I have new replacement pins and bushes, which is what I was trying to get thru last night via PM to Azzrock.

All I want is some knockout pins to press the old bushes out, so that I can put the new ones in.

I have used the offcuts of thick plate to turn up round sections. However Bisalloy would be a bit hard work on my small lathe and 40 mm thickness may not be available anyway . Anykind of steel would do this job as long as you can turn it up easily to size . However most hobbiests don't have much 40mm solid laying around as it is expensive .

I have had another offer via PM to supply and turn some out of 4140, think that is the correct numbering.

I'll wait till I hear back from azzrock and if he can't get suitable material I'll get the other bloke to do it for me.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread

4140 would be good , if it is used in truck axles and gun barrels it should make a good safe press punch .
